Hope to see all supporters at the match!

Let the Games Begin

As Spring Break ends and the move to outdoor practices has taken place the Warriors are looking forward to the upcoming season. Fresh off a Fall campaign in which the team doubled its numbers and went on to end it with an upset of then undefeated University of Maryland. The team looks poised to continue their growth week in and week out. The lady ruggers have chosen to test themselves each weekend this spring with a tough schedule. First up is the ruggers will host Franklin and Marshall College on March 25th. F&M is a solid team and should be a good opening test for the women. As always we look forward to everyone's continued support of the women's rugby team. See you all on the 25th!

Spring Practice

Spring practice starts on February 7th. Indoor practices will be held every Tuesday and Thursday and will be in the Rec Center from 7-9pm. We will be indoors until the weather begins to warm. Once we start outside we will go back to our Monday thru Friday schedule.

Team Meeting Feb 1st

There will be a team meeting on Feb 1st. It will start at 10pm. The meeting will be held in the union. Make sure all current members of the team are there for this event.

Spring Schedule is Set

The spring schedule is now done. Please check the schedule page to see the final version. Make your plans around the scheduled dates. Please note- Some weekends we will be playing on both Saturday and Sunday. This schedule is one of the toughest the women warriors have face in recent years. Almost every team they play made the playoffs in the Fall. This spring the women end with a trip to West Chester University. WCU is one the few varsity rugby teams in the country. Currently they are ranked 10th in the nation in Division 1 and should be a true test to see how far the current team has come. We hope all fans and supporters can make as many games this semester to cheer on the warriors as we ruck and roll this spring. For current players- Make sure you continue to get in shape and are ready to play this spring. Let's build on what we started this Fall.

ESU Players Shine at All-Stars

This past weekend five ESU ruggers traveled to Philly to compete at the annual All-star tournament. The selected players for the warriors were  Rachel Riccardo Kate Deem, Bret Neider, Tiff Bordner, and Nikki Crawford. Alicia Dunn was also selected but could not play due to injury. The tournament was comprise of four teams. Two from the EPRU and one each from the PRU and VRU. These selected players represent the best the Mid-Atlantic colleges have to offer. Some of the colleges with player there were Virginia, U of Maryland, Virginia Tech, U of Delaware, James Madison, UPenn, Kutztown, along with ESU. After it was all said and done the EPRU 1st team went undefeated to win the event. To conclude to the weekend Rachel Riccardo was named the MVP of the Pack for the entire tournament.

Warriors Take Care of Maryland

The lady ruggers traveled south to the University of Maryland this weekend to finished out their Fall season. Though low on numbers the women put together their best performance this year. It all started from the first kickoff as the ladies rucked and rolled down to the Maryland ten meter line. From there Amy Eisenhower booted a penalty kick to put ESU up 3-0. The warriors continued to control the pace of the match but could not convert the many opportunities into points. The first half finished with late try by Maryland. Down 5-3 going into the second half the ladies regrouped and rookie winger Katie Gilligan took a pass out wide and scored her first career try in the corner. Battling back Maryland went on to score another try. With Maryland now leading 10-8 the lady ruggers showed what heart they had and took over control of the game again. Driving deep into UM territory the ESU pack picked and drove the ball inside the three meter line where Rachel Riccardo picked and scored the go ahead try. The warriors then rode out the last five minutes of the match until the final whistle was blown. Final score ESU 13 U of Maryland 10. This ends the Fall season for the women. Next up is the Fall Banquet. Details to follow soon.

Ruggers Shutout Scranton

On what was another wet, sloppy and muddy day. The women warriors held the University of Scranton scoreless. Leading the way with two tries on the day was new inside center Rachel Riccardo. Somehow see seem to move faster around the try line. Also having big games on the day were Sno, Kate, Amy, and Tif. Final score was 27-0. The women look to close out the season this Saturday in fine fashion . They will travel to the University of Maryland.  Kickoff is set for 2pm. Prior to the women's match at UM. Their men's team will be taking on #3 Ranked Navy in what should be a fast, hard hitting affair.

Warriors lose close one to Kutztown

The Warriors lost a close contest with Bears of Kutztown on Monday. The ruggers lead K-town at halftime 5-3. Though they could not hold onto to the lead as too many penalties began to take their toll. The Bears continued to the pound the ball inside the Warriors 22m line. After numerous breaks for the ruggers, K-town was able to punch it through for two late scores. The ESU players had some scoring chances but could not finish them off. Final score 15-5. The ladies look to rebound when they travel to the University of Scranton this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11am at McDade Park. We look forward to seeing the continued support of our fans this Saturday.

Ruggers defeat Gettysburg

On what turned out to be warm sunny Homecoming day. The lady ruggers eked out a 20-10 win over Gettysburg. The field in poor shape due to the rain the last nine days did not help out either. The match turned into a wet, sloppy match with turnovers occurring regularly  for both squads. When the ESU players did keep the ball long enough they were lead by 8-man Snoann Tobin. She ran all over Gettysburg to the tune of four tries. This accounted for all the points on the day for the ruggers.

Homecoming Weekend!

The Warriors are set for a doubleheader this weekend. As both the Men and Women's teams are both in action and at home this Saturday. First the Women will take on Gettysburg College at 12pm. We look for a big turnout for the match from friends, family and Alumni. See you at the field.

Ladies fall to Millersville

The warriors were defeated by Millersville 15-5. Even though the ESU pack controlled the flow of the game, ESU could not come away with the win. Three errors proved to be too costly on the day as with each mistake the ladies from M-ville scored. The next match for the warriors will be a league match vs Kutztown University this Saturday. The women will play their first match of the season at LaSalle on March 19th at 11am. The venue was changed due to the ESU field still water logged from the winter. The team has a good mix of new and old players in what should be a new era for Women's Rugby at ESU. The competition for playing time has been fierce and should be throughout the season. ESU vs Temple University

The women's season has come to an end with a 29-0 lost to Temple on Saturday. From all accounts the ruggers played very hard through out the game. Two players that stood out from the match report was Bret from the backs and Amy Brown from the pack. This was the first round of playoffs and with loss the women will now work on getting ready for the spring. Getting a taste of the playoffs should only make the women want for more. Watch for a very improved team coming this spring.

ESU sneaks into playoffs

The women have earned the #8 and final seed for the EPRU playoffs. They will face in the first round the number seed and defending National Division 2 champs Temple University. Match will be played on Sunday in the Philly area. Details will be posted later this week. Just remember that Temple started as the #8 last year and it took them to a national title. I don't know why it can't happen again for this year's #8 team.

ESU vs St. Joe's

Homecoming could not help the women as they dropped the match to St. Joe's 49-10. There was a lot great individual effort shown on the pitch. It wasn't enough for a team win. It is time for others to raise their game now as it is playoff time.

ESU vs Bloomsburg University

In what can only be called a little light rain the ESU women traveled to Bloomsburg Friday night. While the outcome was not in favor of ESU.  The women played there best match in over a year. They are about one step away from putting it all together. The final from Friday was 14-5. Next up for the women is Homecoming. The ladies will host the Hawks from St. Joe's. Kickoff is set for 11am. Hope to see all family, friends, and alumni at the match.

ESU vs York College

ESU lost to York College by a final score of 39-0. The game was a tale of two halves. After only trailing by 5-0 at halftime. The York women went onto scored 34 unanswered points in the second half. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Bloomsburg University.

ESU vs Widener University

ESU played Widener University on October 2nd. The ruggers prevailed in the match by a score of 10-5. Match report will be up soon. The ladies next take on York College in York at 11am. Hope to see a crowd at the match.

On the other hand Dad is looking at the local convents and gun shops.  All in all the family couldn't be happier. Look for Lia to make her debut at one of the matches this Fall.

Coach on TV

Alumni Weekend

After seeing lots of family and friends this past weekend the women will play the Alumni this Saturday at 11am. The ruggers would like to thank all who attended the Clarion match. Even though we tasted defeat the ladies were happy to see all the faces out there cheering them on. For the alumni match this weekend the women will kick off vs the old girls at 11 am followed by the men vs the old boys at 1pm. After all the matches are complete Teddy's will hosting both teams with a lavish buffet. Hope all  Alumni and friends can attend.

You Get What You Put In

This past Saturday the Ladies Warriors traveled to The College of New Jersey. In what should of been a very close match turned very ugly quickly. The  Lions jumped out to an early lead due to poor defense. The string of bad defense was caused by a few players either waiting behind rucks or walking from breakdown to breakdown. This continued thru the first half and TCNJ jumped out to a 24-0 lead. After some changes the Warriors played a much better second half. If not for a  few bad breaks ESU would have scored a few times. The ladies know what they need to do to beat teams like this. The question is,  "Will they put in the extra effort?" Find out this Saturday when they host Clarion University on Family and Friends Day.

In the second match of the day the Lady ruggers literally smashed TCNJ.  With a new backline out there playing. It looked as though they had been playing together for years. Leading the way was the combo of Diana, Amy, and Sno. The defense was also very impressive. But the moves of Sno stole the show. Playing winger for the first time she on went to score three tries. Her last score of the day was one to remember.  Sno received the ball out wide, made a few cuts back inside and then made a spin move that took two TCNJ  players out the match and proceeded to score. Hopefully the two players will make a quick and speedy recovery. This match was fun to watch as the girls played without fear and looked as though they really enjoyed themselves out there. This is the way  it  should always be.

Change of Schedule

The upcoming Long Island trip this weekend has been canceled. We now have a match at The College of New Jersey this Saturday with a kickoff time of  12pm.

Below is the letter from the tournament director explaining what happened.

To all,

It is with extreme disappointment that I must inform you that Ultimate Spring Classic 2004 must be canceled. A little over a week ago we were notified from the state parks department that the facilities that we host the tournament on the past few years was double booked and that our permit was filed after the other group. In my ten years of running this "Classic" tournament, we've dealt with snow storms, rain storms, moving the site on the day of the tournament but never had I had to deliver the news that "Ultimate Spring Classic" was not going to take place. We have spent the last few weeks visiting every parcel of land big enough to hold 4 pitches of play on Long Island but to no avail. I just received another call of not having enough space to accommodate our tournament.

It is the 11th hour and I could no longer allow another moment to go by without informing you, the teams, of this regrettable news. I am aware that there is still enough time to cancel your hotel accommodations without penalty. Hopefully the same can happen with buses or van rentals. Unfortunately, I cannot find fixtures for all of you for this now open date in your schedule.

In my talks these past few weeks with the NYS Parks Department, I have secured the facilities for the 2005 Ultimate Spring Classic at Heckscher State Park for April 9-10. Please mark your calendars for this date as we shall honor your payment for the 2004 Classic as entrance fee into the 2005 Classic or we can apply it as an entrance fee into Ultimate Rugby Development.

This is not how we viewed our 10th anniversary of such a great tournament to turn out.

Our website seems to be down and our webmaster is working to get it up and running and hopefully ready for you in the next few days.

Once again my sincerest apologies.

Peace, Love & Rugby,

A Sloppy Outcome

ESU playing with just fifteen players eked out a 12-10 win over Swarthmore College. The game was played under wet and muddy conditions. This lead to many ball handing errors from both sides. At the sixty minute mark with Swarthmore ahead 10-0 they inserted four new players into their side. At this point  ESU began to turn things around and started playing like a team. This lead to scores from Becky and T.J. with a conversion kick from Diana. Ending on such a high note hopefully this will lead to even better performances later this season. The team is now off until April 17 and 18 when they will playing in Long Island.

Great Start to Season

The ruggers started off the season with a hard fought win over American University. The final in favor of ESU was 20-10. A full match report will follow this week. The ladies next play Swarthmore College away at 11am.

Lady Ruggers travel to D.C.

The lady ruggers kick off their spring season with an away match at American University. The match is set for March 27th with the action to begin at 10am. Check back for a match report to follow.

Family & Friends Day April 24th

The ESU Women will be holding a Family & Friends day on April 24th. All supporters of the Women's Rugby Team are invited to attend. The ruggers will be hosting Clarion University at 11am. There will be a cookout at the field following the match. Hope to see everyone there.

Indoor practice starts Feb 18th

Make sure all there. This is the first step to a new season. We have a lot to cover from paper work to our workout session. We start right at 7pm in the Rec Center. Get there early and be ready to go!
